Default Engine cuts off

I just bought a 2000 Ram a couple of days ago and I was pulling into a parking lot not even a mile from my house when the engine cut off. I started it back up with no problem, then it did it again and started with no problem. I drove down the road and when I was pulling into another lot it did the samething to me 4 different times. After about 30 mins of the truck running it didnt do again. Any suggestions?

its a 5.2 4x2 Thanks for the help

I wrote about the exact same problem yesterday. Here's what I was told on this forum...

Try pulling the throttle body, take the IAC valve off the back side, clean the pintle (try not to move it...) and the passages. Reinstall, and see if that doesn't improve its attitude.

first - if you have a weak battery - fix that first.
our trucks will not idle properly with low voltage and/or weak battery.

next - you can clean the IAC without the hassle of removing the throttle body.
unplug IAC connector on the back side of the throttle body.
remove IAC. 2 torx, probably #25.
as said, don't push, pull, or twist the pintle.
spray the pintle with brake cleaner and get all the gunk off. set it aside.
spray inside the pintle well with brake cleaner and get it clean.
make sure the port into the TB is open and clean.

haha, don't loose the straw off the brake cleaner down the TB.
allow the brake cleaner to evaporate off.
reassemble.

if that doesn't fix it, replace the IAC for $40-50 at any parts store.
if your lazy like me, don't bother reinstalling the old IAC, just put in a new one.
BUT BUT BUT - do clean the pintle well.

Thanks for the info, I went ahead and did it your way and spent $30 dollars at autozone for a new IAC and it solved the problem. Thanks again!!!

Hmm. Interesting. You may notice that my problem (see my first post ever here) started with a completely dead battery, the result of a bad brake light switch. The local mechanic (whom I trust less and less all the time) said the stalling problem was positively not related to the battery. Now you say differently. I think I trust you more at this point.

I've been on here for a little while and dh and several others seem to be very knowledgeable on our trucks. I know I'm an old man but I still like learning about my vehicles and have learned quite a bit here. Now if I can remember it when I need it all will be good.
