Unhappy Ram grinds in reverse

Hey fellow Dodge enthusiast I come to ask for help with a serious problem recently plagueing my 2000 Ram 4x4. A few days ago I put my truck into reverse while trying to back out of a parking spot, I moved about two feet and Boom GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! I quickly put the truck into park and waited for a second then put it back into reverse; drove home just fine.

When I got home I thought that was odd, and to me the sound kind of resembled if one were to put the transfer case into neutarl while the motor is still running. So I decided to put the truck into 4wd on the short dirt road stretch home and it seemed to be fine but who knows.

Well today the same exact thing happend (I thought if I burried my head in the sand the whole thing would just go away) Now I need to stress this is bad because its my work truck (No truck=no work now subtract no work from 21 yr old college student with a mortgage, more bills than I can shake a stick at and wife= bad juju)

Does anyone know what this could be, I just hope its not a huge problem thats going to cost a fortune and I hope it can be fixed rather quickly. I appreciate anyones help with this issue sincerely. Thank you

popping, snapping, grinding from the trans is all bad - very bad.

i have something similar, but not quite as bad YET. when i shift from reverse to drive, i get a pretty loud SNAP sound, and then it acts normal. i dropped the pan recently and found a piece of broken snap ring (cause of the problem) and a handful of aluminum shavings (caused by the snap ring). i'm on borrowed time also.

find a good transmission shop soon. you're going to need it. you might/might not be lucky enough to have a repair of the O/D unit or valve body area without pulling the trans. but don't count on it.

to squeeze out another few days, when you shift in/out of reverse, hold the brake tight, and then ease it off very gently and ease onto the gas. see if you can keep things lined up and avoid the grinding. the grinding is likely eating away at something very important. maybe the case, maybe another part.
