problem with antitheft/security system
I have a 98 dodge 1500 318 and i believe i have a problem with the antitheft/security system. It will crank then cut off in about 2 or so seconds and gauges on dash do not move. Today me and a buddy from work tried cranking and giving a little gas and after about 10 or so tries we got it to crank and stay on. So we drove it down the road a little ways and ran fine and got back home and shut it off then tried to recrank and it cranked and then shut off and tried again and it would do the same thing by cranking and then cutting off. We believe it might have to do with my antitheft/security system. Anybody ever have this problem and if so how did you fix it. Would appreciate the help and info. Thanks.
To diagnose the problem you might want to try disconnecting the security system and then see what happens. If it starts and runs fine you know the root of the problem. After that I don't know what to tell ya.
I had this same exact problem on my 2001 with the security system. Does your odometer say "no bus"? Dealer had to replace the PCM computer located in engine compartment. I was able to have them cover it since this module also controls emissions functions. How many miles on your truck? I think all emissions telated parts are covered up to 80K per some government regulation but I could be wrong. Hope it goes well for you.
