NEED AC HELP....
On my 98 Ram, had the AC checked, was dead empty..... tried to pull a vaccum to test it, no leak foundin a short time.. charged it.. blew COLD as hell..... then abotu a week later, not so cold... another week later, its just warm air...
Its scheduled for a UV Dye test friday....
my question, when I did my water pump....I unbolted and moved around the compressor... in the moving, could I have simply jarred and broke free an O-Ring or something?? Or is there a common problem on these, again, mines a 98....

I just took my 95 ram into the dealership to have a leak test done on it and they told me that it was only 1/4 of a pound low on freon. They did a pressure and performance test on it and told me that I had no change in pressure from low cool to max a/c. There is eitheir a lot of moisture in the system or the orfice tube is clogged or non functional. They quoted me $250 to replace the tube and recharge the system. I don't usually take my truck in to the dealership but when it comes to a/c I know only the basics but don't have any guages or tools to fix the problem. Im not sure if your a/c could have a similar problem or if your high side or low side switches might be bad. Has anyone replaced the orfice tube by themselves and if so how hard was it to do? Im pretty sure its in the low side line and im guessing that you probably need a special tool to do it.

Yup you hit a line.
Hard to really say but the garage should have a freon sniffer that they can run over all the lines and it buzzs like hell when it finds the leak.
Have them check the area you last touched. Leaks are hard for the average joe to find unless you have the right tool. And its an expensive tool so its best to bring it to a good shop.
Good Luck

you have a leak alright cause the a/c is a sealed system and should never leak unless tampered with or maybe lines to old and corroaded. Uv dye test is good i have found many condencers to be bad with that test. When you pull a vacuum it should at least hold in the same place for about 15 min if it moves a little thats normal but if it moves alot or goes back into the positives you have a leak. and all ways recover the system before pulling a vacuum.
when you go in friday they will put dye in and if they can't find it right away they will charge the system and have you come back in a few days for another look see.

well, the dye is in and its blowing cold... for now.... gonna run it to see where the leak shows up if at all.. if no leaks in teh engine compartment, the dash has to be dropped ot do the evaporator
