Default Fuel pump brand recommendations please

Been chasing a performance problem related to less than half tank of gas. So decided to run most of the gas out and drop the tank, when gas got low could hear the pump whining, kind of pulsing. Fuel pressure was dropping to around 40 in time with the pulsing whine. Pumped the remaining gas out through the fuel rail, pump was apparently sucking air and sending forward, may be what the sound was. So now I'm shopping for a new fuel pump module and hoping for best brand recommendations from the group. Unit just taken out was made by Carter, has a round strainer on the bottom, lasted for about 70k miles.

Default Anyone? Anyone?

Ok if no opinions on a best brand of fuel pump, anyone have any horror stories or stay away froms? This is my work truck so I can't afford to have it down for long, so I'll be buying something off the shelf at a local parts store tomorrow. From what I've read on another forum (a Chevy forum actually) they say stay away from Airtex.

I had a problem with Carter, but it's probably all your going to get besides airtex locally. Rock auto .com Has a good selection. I'm going with a Delphi next time.

Thanks, zman17, I found a Delphi available at a Napa about 20 min from here. It is actually the only non-Airtex pump I have found in stock at any local parts store.

Delphi, and only Delphi.

You should have easily found this recommendation with a forum search. Thats probably why you didn't get as quick a response as you might have wanted.

That means it's already been replaced. Twice now. Good luck with that Airtex. Not saying they are all junk, but I won't take that risk.

I searched for a couple hours before posting this, only found 1 actual recommendation before asking, and that recommendation was for a denso which was not available anywhere in stock in S.E. VA. I have been lurking and learning on this forum for years before signing up to participate a few months ago. Sometimes the problem with searching is that hundreds and hundreds of posts are returned, sometimes with dozens of replies, even dozens of pages of replies, and sometimes it takes hours of reading to dig out the answers and at times all the information is overwhelming. That said I do sincerely appreciate all the answers to my questions and all the answers to other members questions. Oh, and the Delphi fuel pump is installed, Thanks again.

zman,
The Pump I took out had never been replaced, till I did it at 175,000 miles, it has about 195,000 miles now with the replacement Airtex in it..
