i got a 1998 dodge ram 1500 v8 5.7L it has about 134,000 miles on it engine and so on are strong, Just the trans wont go into 2nd gear so its stuck at 1st gear and wont go faster than 40mph. The check engine is not on, and when you go to drive, than to reverse and once you are in reverse it has a resistance to go for like a second untill you step on the gas a little more. Thats all i know about the truck hopefully its nothing major. Any help will be appreciated

I'd start by replacing the Governor Solenoid and Governor Pressure Switch/Transducer.

21 - 494 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 46RE BR/BE
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 46RE (Continued)
CONDITION POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTION
HAS FIRST/REVERSE
ONLY (NO 1-2 OR 2-3
UPSHIFT)
1. Governor Circuit Electrical Fault. 1. Test using DRBT scan tool and repair as
required.
2. Valve Body Malfunction. 2. Repair stuck 1-2 shift valve or governor
plug.
3. Front Servo/Kickdown Band
Damaged/Burned.
3. Repair/replace.
