What are the differences? Will one kind NOT work with the 5.9L? I really don't care which one. Cheaper that works with the truck is what I will take Drew. You have never mislead me before.

The plugs are different, you need to look and see if yours is round or square.

there are at least 8 distinctly different o2's for our trucks.. there are federal emissions, cali emissions, some for pre '97, some for pre '00, and some for past '01.. Then there are downwind o2's a well that may or may not differ from year to year on federal emission trucks, but do on cali emissions..

it's effin' confusing.. hence: the reason I have extra.. I didn't get it right on the first shot, because I listened to part counter clowns..

Well, I will pull mine and look for round versus square. But it is a 97 and I could care less about emissions inspections. Just has to keep my engine from running to rich. lol

I will pull it again to check. I am pretty sure it is round because I didn't know they came squared. And when I had it off before, I am pretty sure it was round. Will check.

What does this mean?

"Oxygen Sensor; Pre-Catalyst; Right; w/18"" Length"

What is the difference between "right" and "left?"

after all my witness to the o2 sagas, the best I can tell you is that unless your truck is a cali rig and requires two sensors, the only difference between 'right' and 'left' are the lengths of the wires.. it seems to be some sort of hold-over for the rigs that need two (California emissions) that has followed ALL of the sensors..

yours needs but one, right? get the one with enough wire to span the distance between the plug and the bung, but get the one that mates up as it should with your harness and PCM.. From what I gather, there is a difference in connectors, and there is a difference in voltages/resistance from pre to post '97's.. and of course the difference between cali and federal (though, I think cali differs more so on the downwind than the upwind sensors, but have never proven that)..
