Default 5.9l Engine Compatibility

Hello Everyone, I am new to Dodge gas trucks (have owned several diesels) and have a quick question.

I just purchased the truck noted in my sig. It idled rough when I purchased it. I thought that it would be one of the likely culprits (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, IAC, O2 sensors), but it is not. I pulled out my compression tester the other day and found that several of the cylinders are a 115psi and #6 is at 50psi (highest was 140psi). I proceeded to check the condition of the rings in #6 by dumping 3 caps of oil in the cylinder and rechecking the compression. It jumped to 90psi. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that means a bad ring. With the varied compression in the other cylinders, I think my best option is to replace the engine.

My question is this: what year engines are compatible with my truck? The local junk yard has a '97 with good compression, oil pressure, 145,000, and a 90 day warranty for $500.

Thanks,
Scott

I don't really think it is so much the engine as it is the manifold and PCM.

Should be fine.
