Default Rear End Question, Need some HELP!

I tried searching and came up with nothing, I have a 2001 5.9 ram 1500.

I blew the rear end out, so my question is can i put a rear from a 96, 97 rear in my 01?

I tried searching junk yards but came up empty.

Thanks for any help.

Yes you can. You will need to change the yoke on the pinion tho, the '01 has a flange style yoke, while the 96,97,98 rears have the old school strap yokes.

When I change rears like that, I always slide the axles out and remove the brake backing plates and hang them up on the truck somewhere. Then install the original backing plates on the new rear. That way I don't have to bleed the brakes afterward, and I know the old brakes and wheel cylinders were in good shape.

take the yoke off your 01 rear, and put it on the 96-99 junk yard rear end.
good time to replace pinion seal too.
