Jus drove around block, when not accelerating oil pressure is fine, when accelerating the pressure goes up. ??

Brent Jones 08-04-2011 05:25 PM

Its normal for your oil pressure to go up when you accelerate.

tatitup8 08-04-2011 05:30 PM

Drastically and drops when I let off the pedal?

tatitup8 08-04-2011 06:10 PM

3 people said its prolly the transmission

aim4squirrels 08-04-2011 06:22 PM

How drastically do the RPM's rev when you push it?

A general rule of thumb is 10psi oil pressure for every 1000RPMs. That isn't an exact figure, so don't go quoting it as scripture, but the oil pump is driven by the camshaft, so the faster then engine goes, that faster the oil pump pushes oil. Are you traveling outside of the normal range of the oil pressure on your dash gauge? If it's in the normal range, don't go looking for a problem that isn't there.

Your transmission could be taking a dump, but you could have other issues like torque converter drain back, or a loose band that needs adjusting. I believe 1st and reverse are controlled by the same transmission band.

ok, oil thing is fine.. i tuned truck to 93 octane the day before this started happening.. i had full tank of supreme (93) so i dont think this is the problem..

it also shakes when i change to 2nd gear or downshift from second. and shakes pretty bad when i push the pedal in to about idle speed

aim4squirrels 08-05-2011 12:42 PM

Did you happen to do any engine work?

If you did, Check the easy stuff like plug wires firmly on contacts and on the correct tower on the cap.

tatitup8 08-05-2011 01:44 PM

I did the plenum about a month ago, changes plugs wires and tstat.

aim4squirrels 08-05-2011 02:14 PM

So there is nothing you did right before it started acting up?

tatitup8 08-05-2011 02:34 PM

Closest thing was tune with SCT and fill up with premium the day before

malrick 08-05-2011 03:40 PM

I would try going back to stock computer settings see if it helps might be that simple.

aim4squirrels 08-05-2011 03:52 PM

How empty were you when you filled up with the 93 octane and reprogrammed?

I know the SCT tuner removes torque management so that the trans shifts harder instead of that sloppy soft shift that Dodge gives you. It basically gimps the engine just before shift so that the torque is backed way off during the trans shift. This gives you that nice grandma feeling shift.

Perhaps there really isn't something up to snuff in your trans and the removal of the Torque Management is causing a problem.

I did put it back to stock, that was first thing I tried.

I was just under a quarter tank when I filled up. And Idk if it is the tuner cuz I put it back on stock and it's doing to same thing.

HeyYou 08-05-2011 07:41 PM

how is the engine running? If you are down on power... when's the last time you did a tuneup? Does the truck run ok when cold, and get worse as it warms up?

tatitup8 08-05-2011 11:04 PM

Lol, I feel like an idiot.. I looked under the hood just snooping around, and I saw a spark plug wire fell out of the harness and it was laying on the header. It looked burned through the rubber surround to the wire and it was grounding out to the header I guess.

HeyYou 08-05-2011 11:57 PM

That would definitely give you a miss......

tatitup8 08-06-2011 12:24 AM

Hahaha yeah.. I checked plugs and wires, to see if they were plugged in, not to see if they were melted on a heAder lollll

aim4squirrels 08-06-2011 12:29 PM

one problem down, on to the next.

dhvaughan 08-06-2011 12:38 PM

don't feel alone. i melted my posilok cable on the manifold.
