Default 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 liter engine

I have a problem with acceleration on a dodge ram 1500 5.2 liter engine. When I accelerate to over 2000 rpm it makes choking noises and it will only manage 12-15 mph at 2000 rpm. On the Friday night no problems but on Monday morning the problem started. Thought it was the Tranny so had it changed but it made no difference. Checked the vacum it was normal and compression test is good, wiring all new, rotor as well. Fuel pump is also working ok. Wondered about the Fuel Filter if that could be the problem. Only thing not checked is a pressure test on the fuel line itself.
Can anyone help me sort this. LOL Thanks

2 things,

must verify fuel pressure is 49psi +/- 5psi. there should be a test port on the fuel rail on the driver's side. Has a little black cap on it mid rail and looks like a tire schraeder valve. screw a tester onto that spot and turn the truck on, just long enough to build pressure. then turn it off and watch the pressure needle, it should stay pumped up for at least 5mins. if it doesn't get to 49 psi, its the pump, if it does get up to pressure but bleeds off pressure too quickly, you probably have a bad regulator.

Second, possible clogged catalytic converter. there were recalls on the catalytic converters, but the trucks are so old the recall has been discontinued. Try removing the forward O2 sensor (the one closer to the engine before the catalytic converter) and see if acceleration improves. The CEL light will come on, but it's easy to clear, and the truck will be louder as there is now a hole in the exhaust. If it runs a little better, then you can reasonably blame the catalytic converter or possibly a collapsed muffler.

If you do diagnose a catalytic converter failure, there is a reason it happens, and that can be discussed later.

if its not the cat, and it is acting like the tranny is slippin out of gear at 2k, then try to adjust the TV cable some. u can search how to do it on here or google. if its to far out of whack either way it will slip out, until you let off throttle and then it will finally get into gear again.

Wait a second... You bought another transmission and installed it because you thought that might have been the problem!?!????

Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't have a few 46re's sitting around?

Sounds to me like a clogged catalytic converter problem. Temporarily remove your PRE-cat O2 sensor carefully and drive around the block. If the problem improves, then your cat is clogged. Don't let the sensor just dangle either...

No, you should not drive the truck for very long like this. A check engine light may come on as a result of removing the pre-cat O2 sensor too. Consider throwing a new O2 sensor back in too.
