Default remote starter or not

I know I'm having remote keyless put on my truck but for another 100.00 I can get the remote starter too.
Do I really need the remote starter? I have never been one to warm up my trucks more than a minutes. I can walkout to start the truck and clean it off.
what ya think remote starter or not?

I was going to get one, but where I live, there is a city ordinance against warming up your vehicle while not sitting in it (pollution prevention measure). Also, I knew a girl who had her car stolen after she remote started it and was letting it warm up.

If I still lived out in the country, hell ya I would have one.

My friend had her doors locked while it was warming up. They just busted the window and drove away. It was basically a 2 man team. They drive around in the winter looking for cars that are running with no passenger (easy to spot when it is cold due to the evap cloud coming out of the tail pipe). Based on the tracks in the snow, looks like they simply pulled up in there car, one man jumped out, walked over to her car, busted the window, and drove away behind the first car. When it was recovered, the insurance did not cover her loses because she had left her car running without being in it (violated city ordinance). The car was almost a total loss too.

Most remote starters have a anti theft feature. If someone tries to put the car/truck in gear when it is running & the owners keys are not in the ignition it will shut the vehicle down.

I used to install remote starts, and yes, when installed properly, it will shut down when the brake is applied. Also, since there is no key in the ignition, the steering wheel can't be turned w/o some serious effort to break the interlock. If my Ram ever gets out of the shop, (25 days and counting!) I'm getting one put in.

Yes, the remote starter is the way to go if you live where its cold. The Bulldog remote starter that I have has the security feature, which does not allow drive offs without the key. I have had this for about three years. Good luck!

remote starters are not just for the winter..........i use it on hot days to cool off the truck before i get in. and its lovely in the winter. Avital remote starts (can be found at best buy) require you to press two buttons to start the vehicle, so you dont have to worry about random starts in your pocket. it also shuts down after 20 minutes just in case you forgot you started it. It also locks the doors when it starts the vehicle and if someone tries to press the brake and put the truck in gear it shuts down. i highly suggest getting a remote start....... you will not regret it. oh and its has keyless entry built into the system
