Question trans problem need some opinions

The solenoids in my 46re went out on me so i went ahead and pulled it out and took it to a buddy to have rebuilt. Got it back, put it in, worked fine untill i went over a few hills later that night. started wanting to take off in second gear but would go to first if shifted manually. Kept havin a few problems, thought maybe it was the shift kit i put in it. Took the pan back off only to discover it was slap full of metal shavings. Pulled it all back out took it apart last night and everything is good. Clutches and everything was perfect. He said the torque converter came apart. It was a new re-man peice. Has anyone ever heard or seen a converter come apart? Im not sure that thats my problem but everything else looks good. Any advice? Also, i put a derale 5qt. extra capacity pan on it, do i need a filter drop kit? cant find one anywhere, or find out if i even need one.

Only advice I have, is don't use that same brand TC. And get a new one.
