Default 96 360 wont idle and stalls

My 96 360 does not want to idle when you start it up you have to hold the gad a little to get it to stay at idle rpm, soon as you let off the pedal it stalls. I can take it out and run it a bit and it will idle fine afterwards. Soemtimes on rare ocassions it will idle cold but usually it doesnt and half the time it wont warm. I have clean the IAC motor on the back side of the TB. That has fixed this problem 3 times in the last 4 years, this time it is not fixing the issue. Did the motor finally say to heck with it and completely failed or is there something else the problem?

One thing that may be an issue is the battery is some what shot. Half the time you can start the truck without jumping and sometime you do.

Thanks for the help.

Problem is, cleaning the IAC doesn't mean the prob is solved. What brand have you been purchasing? Get one from the dealer. There are other things that can cause your prob, but you have to eliminate one thing at a time.

I havn't purchased one, I just take it out and clean and reinstall it and the problem goes away for over a year usually, as long as that keeps doin it I didnt care especially now since I am getting rid of it. I dont want to throw all my money down the stupid thing.

I'll try and pick one up and get it installed but the dealer probably wants my arms and legs

If it's bad , it's bad. Cleaning won't help. And like I said, could be something else, but you have to eliminate it as a problem. Disconnect the negative battery cable before you replace it.

Also if the battery is bad as you implied, our trucks have problems when the battery is weak or dead. Like zman said eliminate the IAC as a problem, it may have finally given up the ghost.

Well maybe I should throw a battery in it. I tried to jump start it today and it wouldn't idle, but I threw the charger with 200 amp booster on it and it fired right up and idles beautifully, even when the charger was taken off.

It needs to battery cable ends like no ones business they are hirribly corroded so that is probably an issue to, let me get that done and see where we are at.

Got it sold, new battery did the trick. Thanks for your help guys. I noticed before that the issues only came around arfter the battery cables had been messed with. I usually tightened them up and it took care of it.
