Default VSS Voltage - ABS Light

Hi all. Want to thank everyone for the all the help you've provided for fixing my numerous braking issues. This forum has been the key to me fixing numerous problems. Not to mention saving an enormous amount of money. I hate to do it but I have to tap you guys for another question.

First off I have a '96 1500 4x4 P/U. My ABS light is on (btw I don't have ABS just RWAL but I digress) and I grounded the #13 pin on the PCM and got 9 blinks out of the ABS light which according to the Haynes manual says that it is high resistance from the VSS. I already replaced the sensor on the differential and decided to test the voltage on the VSS on the transfer case. Per Haynes I connected + to Orange and - to Black/Blue to check for reference voltage to the sensor. I got back 5.14v when I should have 8.0v. Then to check the PCM signal voltage I conected the + to the white/orange wire and the - to the black/blue wire. I got back 5.14 volts again which the reference voltage should be about 5v. Now I only had the ignition in the ON position. I haven't tried it running but I can do that. I just thought ON was enough since that is what I do when I do when I use my OBD scanner.

I do buy a new sensor and was going to replace it automatically but when I couldn't get the mounting screw out of the speedometer adapter I decided I may as well check the voltage before drilling out the rusted mounting screw and metal insert.

I will admit I am not a certified mechanic and have a lot of ignorance to a whole lot of things but I am capable and I am more than happy to take any constructive criticism from everyone, if that makes any sense. When I was checking the voltage I disconnected the connector and was testing voltage from the connector to the PCM. Just in case that makes a difference in some way. I just want to give as many details as possible to help expedite things.

Thought I'd update with some testing I've been doing. I tested the voltage with the motor running and still 5.14v from both leads. To eliminate the connector as a possible suspect I cut all three lines and tested the voltage again with the same results.

I'm thinking it's not the VSS and that it is either a corroded connection/wire somewhere or something is wrong with the PCM. Does anyone know where the three wires from the VSS terminate? I may have to tone them out to find them or scour the wiring schematics. Thanks for reading.

Download the factory service manual for wiring diagrams. And did you reset the PCM after replacing the sensor?
