Contamination is a good possibility, also the cooler could be stopped up.

Just for ****s and giggles you might just drop the pan and make sure you dont have the late sensor. Ive seen stranger things.

change the fluid and filter.
flush the cooler lines and the trans cooler section of the radiator, and any other optional trans coolers that you might have.
refill with atf+4 only. no additives.
hope for improvement.
