3:55's are "high" .Depending on the tire size you go to some day, you'll want 4:10's or 4:56's.

Ok. So higher the ratio the lower the gear?

Unless I sell or change my mind on the 17" wheels I plan to run the stock size for that wheel.

In even simpler terms, most everyone that has a Ram 1500(non off road edition) has crappy gears.

Yeah my rear diff is probably needing some attention soon. The pumpkin shows signs internal leaking, got the "wet" spots but no leaking to the ground. I was even looking at locker's for it too.

Your right, time for a 4x4!

Only difference is a 2wd is cheaper to fix. They don't even get any surmountable amount of better MPG's.

Honestly I would expect a MPG decrease with a 4x4 truck. I looked at the sticker on the door of my truck (quad cab) and the rear end is a bit heavier then the front.

I know that would be different with all the extra stuff up front for the 4x4.

Not that much, is what I'm saying. And if you add in the oversize tire's, the difference isn't that great. 1 or 2 MPG at the most. You have to do what makes you happy , that is the bottom line. Have fun and do what you want to your truck. It's yours, and that's all matters.

Well this truck is bought and paid for, so either way whatever I decide to do, I don't have to worry about making a truck payment

Thanks for for help.
