SCT Turner for a 1996 RAM PCM Fact and Question?
I have had an SCT tuner From Hemifever for about a year now.. The problem I am having is with the tune (87,89, or 91) loaded, the trans would slip/hesitate between shifts, but load the stock tune back on and problem disappeared..
I emailed Hemi and we tried a modified tune but no luck. I asked about the Torque Management and he said..
" tq mgmt is a "on" or "off" type of thing and in '97 (and up) its a switch in the pcm that can be turned off or on. its not in the '96 pcm code. " - FACT - So I always have Tq Mgmt no matter what..
UPDATE.....
I asked hemi
does the 96 not have any tq mgmt at all - so no switch... Or it has tq mgmt but no switch in the PCM code to turn it off...
And he said
"Now that I don't know. I think it does have some but SCT hasn't found where it can be turned off.* '97 to '03 follow the same tq mgmt patterns.* If*'96 matches the '97+ then it's already turned off as the equivalent piece in the code already shows it disabled.* "
So I am trying one more tune, if still a problem will start looking at the trans.
Now the ?
When people post on here about shifting problems answers include..
When was the last service done? 6 months ago even added a drain plug.. CHECK
Have the bands been adjusted? No, but just because I dont have a problem with stock tune.... so kind of a CHECK OR do you guys believe the band adjustment should be done anyways?
Replace the Governor Pressure solenoid. I don't get a code, but do you think that my solenoid is barely keeping up with the stock truck tune and the small HP and Tq increase from the SCT tune is making it float.. info from this thread

Any other suggestions or questions would be great....

Yes.. The shifts are later in the rpm range, not sure the exact rpm but it is later.... and of course the slip or double shift...
Does RPM range effect trans line pressures?
Does RPM range effect trans line pressures?
The pcm doesn't control the 1-2 shift, so programing should have no effect.
No death flash here...

That is good info... What does control the 1-2 shift.. our trans are both Hyd and Elect control right...
He gave me some standard tunes for the limited upgrades I have.. Had trans problem with all three tunes...
He made some changes to the 87 tune and the problem is still their...
So he gave me one more tune to try, this one is bone stock tune for a engine with no upgrades and if problem persist then will have to look else where for a fix,
I really don't want to give up on the tuner and sell it.. the engine runs and idles great, just the shift/slip is the only problem...
