now i just wanna cry!
so found out my h.g. was blown, took everything apart, got a h.g. kit, start cleaning everything and go figure, one of the heads has 2 cracks between valves. FML! nothing ever goes easy or cheap on this damn truck... whats the cheapest place for me to get at least the one new head, preferably both? better yet, does anyone here on the forum have a good set of heads for a 96 5.9l that they could part with for cheap? appreciate all the help and the shoulder to cry on...

beware stock/used heads. they're likely to crack, or be cracked. go with new castings and be done with it.
this place has good reviews. the sell on ebay as well as their own web site, under the names Odessa and Clearwater. they sell singles or pairs.

Our stock heads are crack happy. I've had my drivers side cylinder head crack on me too.
Aftermarket heads (like what dvhaughan posted) are probably the best plan.
BUT, if you are on a tight budget, I have heard good things about Cylinder Heads International. They sell stock rebuilt heads for a good price. I believe the magnum heads are only $175 each.
Click on "inventory" and then "Chrysler/Dodge" and look for the magnum heads:

I haven't used them, but I've read good reviews.

no personal experience with either one, but based on the amount of work required to remove and replace, i'd rather pay a little more and have new castings rather than rewelded old castings.
from International's site...
Some heads are quite durable, but others are disappointingly fragile. The sheer number of heads we deal with creates an extensive knowledge base over time, and we have learned that many factory heads have inherent weak points. In most cases we are able to "beef up" the head by welding up thin areas and relieving metal prone to fatigue to prevent cracking.
