Default play in steering wheel

I have a 2001 dodge 1500 sport 4x4 and i have play in my steering wheel when im driving, when i turn left my steering wheel will turn half way and the tires dont even turn yet and when i turn right it will be normal turning, also under my hood and i can grab my steering shaft above the steering box and it wiggles at the firewall, is there a bushing or bearing that can be replaced or do i have to get a whole new steering column? Because i cant get it autozone or discount and dealer says u have to replace the whole steering column

thanx let me get ur input

Check out rock solid steering fix for rams. Google it, will help correct your issue.

This will take care of the play at the end of the steering column. http://www.rocksolidramtrucksteering.com/ as far as the rest of it goes, you need to get someone to saw back and forth on the steering wheel, while you look at ALL the steering components and see where the play is.
