OVERHEATING
I have a 96 dodge Ram 1500, It has a 9 inch sup lift and a 3 inch body lift, I live in So Calif, during the winter I have no problems
with it, but come summertime I really need to keep an eye on the temp gauge! Took it to the dealer and they told me it was my thermostat, had then change it. On the way home it starts boiling out antifreze from the overflow. Took it back to the dealer same day. and they would call me the next morning. They did, they said my raditor needs to be cored. OK no prob! Picked it up and on the way home it starts boiling over, took it back, they will call me again, they told me I needed a new water pump! Go for it, they put a new one on! I came and picked it up! Well, I made it back to the house, drove it up into the driveway turned the motor off, got out of the truck just in time to here boiling water and then a pop and antifreze is steaming and flowing down my driveway, like gallons of it!
It had blown the hose to my thermostat! So I called the dealer back and told them to come and get the truck and fix the freaking problem! They put a new hose on it and told me they cannot fix the problem because of the lift kit was setting the radiator to off centered from the clutch fan! Can you belive that! Anyway I had to file a claim saying that there greasemonkey's didnt know what the
heck they were doing and finely was reimbursted all my money! So back to the origanal problem, has any one tried putting an electrical fan on to keep it cooled down?
Thanks: stilnsocal

Gotta love those bodylifts. I can't imagine you have a fan shroud anymore with a 3" bodylift, so it doesn't surprise me. 1) find new mechanics 2) get a good electric fan. Then you'll never have to worry about the fan clutch failing and your waterpump will last longer. An added benefit is without the parasitic drag of the stock belt-driven fan you'll free up a few more horsepower.
Flex-a-lite makes a dual fan that pushes 5500 cfm, that will keep you cool. there is also a viper fan upgrade that some people do. that should also work. have you swapped the upper and lower radiator hoses? the lower hose may have a busted spring in it and your hose is collapsing under load.
