Default Idle Problem

My 2000 Ram 318 HP will not idle any more. When I start coasting to a stop it will usuall go dead or if I crank it it will not idle without giving it a little acceleration. Changed cat converter a few weeks ago. Suggestions please. Thanks

pull off the throttle body and clean it. the IAC valve is dirty and there is gunk in some of the small air passages that are on the TB. put on a new gasket and you should be good

Default RE: Idle Problem

Possibly a related problem. On my 1998 1500 with the 360, I've had an ongoing idle problem for the better part of a year. I've replaced the O2 sensors, TPS, MAP, and the in tank fuel pump, and nothing has cured the problem. Initial start from cold is fine. Once it gets up to running temp, SOMETIMES, when at lights or idling in a parking lot, the idle drops to around 400 rpm and sounds like its struggling to suck air. Like a vacuum leak noise, but it is real loud. It also occurs after being driven and allowed to cool for 10-45 minutes. Upon starting up and running for about 30 seconds, the problem occurs again, but not all the time. Then yesterday, a new symptom reared its head. It acted like it wasn't getting fuel as I pulled away from the parking lot. This happened when the problem was occuring and has never happened before. Usually, the act of leaving and depressing the gas pedal makes the problem disappear (at least until I slow and stop again).

I've had the truck hooked up to a computer, and no codes have been found. I've also recently done the dist cap, rotor, and plug wires. (Plugs are Bosch +4's so I left them alone.)

Looking around, I've found reference to a vacuum problem under the dash, but my truck already has the fix outlined in the TSB for that problem.

I'm really beginning to get frustrated in finding this problem. A proper application of high explosives is quickly beginning to look like a good option!![:@]

Is it possible that the fix you described in this thread will also work for my problem? I hate removing the TB unit due to my cold air intake being a pain to re-install.

I tried the injector cleaner and it seems to have corrected it. At least for now.
