I put a new air filter on my truck but the black round gasket thing broke into like 5 pieces and wont stay on.Do I really need that thing there?I mean should I order a new one or does it really matter if its on there or not?

 

Yes, you need in there. Detroit doesn't arbitrarily install gaskets or other parts just for grins.

That gasket is available at auto parts stores and are inexpensive.

 

Definitely replace it. It keeps crap (like road sand) from getting sucked directly into your intake manifold. Unless you want to sandblast your cylinder walls, get a new one.

 

They are like 5 bucks. I put a little white grease on the bottom of mine to help it stay in place on the tb.

 

I feel ya man. The exact same thing happened to mine when I took the air cleaner box off to check out the air filter.

Really crappy design too. Should have made a simply pop top or something instead of having to take off the whole darn thing

 

Nuthin to it! Just gotta hold your mouth right and it'll come right off and jump back on!

 

I'm not sure why you guys have such problems with the stock air box.
I can get mine off in under a minute. Dunno what you guys are bitchin about.

 

whats that thing called anyway i want to call the parts store and see if they got one thanks.yeah for some reason the lock thing that you unscrew was a real pain to get back on right there must be a trick to it grrrr.
