help please .transfercase interchange question

Question help please .transfercase interchange question

i have a 99 ram with automatic trans 5.9 liter.i just destroyed my transfer case and i located another out of a 97 with auto trans and 5.9 liter .the salvage yard manual says they wont interchange .does anyone know first hand if i can swap a 97 transfercase in place of my broken 99s case.i know about the speed sensor but couldnt i just leave the old one in or put a freeze plug in its place its 1.750 hole.thanks for all your help... corey

It will work/fit, but the shift patterns are most likely different.

thanks for the reply the guy is parting out the whole truckso he said i could take shift linkage and all that i needed to make it work .this is my first dodge ive always been a chevy guy but i got a softspot for the rams styling lol

The shift pattern is the reason the JY says it won't work. Hence, not a direct replacement. Also, sometimes the input and output shafts are different. Measure them and make sure, before trying to stick it.

If the inputs are differnt you can also swap them out, the tcase internals arent as scary as most people make them seem
