once your mechanic has had a look, get a 2nd opinion to verify what he finds. most tire shops will do a front end inspection free of charge. If they both agree then go ahead and get the issue fixed. then get the alignment re-done and add the maximum caster that the tech can put in.

I think your truck is a hemi?? which doesnt have the solid front axle that the 2nd gen & CTD trucks have. The guys here have a solid front axle that is aligned with a tracbar that has a ball joint on the end. guys have discussed this for years and from my experience the best thing to fix it was an alignment.

welcome to df... let us know what they say.

well went to my machanic and they checked the ball joints and said that their going to be replaced but there not the reason the truck is doing what its doing. they only move like an 8th of an inch. and its just the top and bottom. they checked the track bar and thats fine. and the shocks are fine too. so the last thing left was the stearing stabilizer so they ordered a new one and put it in. and it seems to drive much better. lot smoother over the bumps. the stearing wheel doest shake so much over the smallest bumps.

they told me that an allignment wouldnt do anything. but i appriciate all the help.

hahahaha... alot they know. look at a shopping car with the front wheels... when you push the cart the wheels self align in a forward direction. imagine taking the caster out of that wheel and having it on a 90 deg axis to the ground, it's going to shake and go in any direction it can... thats what happens when you have no caster... start adding some and the wheel straightens out.

Listen to them and you'll have a $500 repair bill... vs a $60 alignment bill. do some searching on the web for death wobble and you'll find the alignment fix comes up alot and cures it 99% of the time.

I took my steering stab off about a year ago (broke it off actually) and have yet to notice ill effects. The steering stab will mask problems with the front end ... most noticeably wobble issues.
