Having gone both ways many times and finding them equally effective, I prefer the rope technique. Aside from the fact that it cannot cause unintended motion, there's no reason other than the fact that I like the quiet. Especially when the snow is flying outside, my old woman is preparing dinner inside, and I'm in no hurry at all.

The air tools are nice and sometimes necessary, but they don't strum chords in my soul the way my old ratchets ticking around and combination wrenches clinking do.

If you have a compression gauge, chances are you have the adapter to pressurize the cylinder. Many gauges have interchangeable ends that connect to the gauge with a quick coupler like shop air systems use.

Finally went with the magnaflow cat. Found a guy that would sell and install it for 165, no tax. Seemed like a pretty good deal, especially sense I don't have a welder. It actually made the truck quieter, the brick in the old cat was about gone. Surprised it wasn't rattling more than it was and that I didn't have a CEL. I seem to have a little more power too. Nothing major, truck just seems to move with a little less effort from the motor. I don't floor it from a standstill regularly, but I gave in to temptation. Odd thing is, the tires squeeled twice as long as I remember them doing in the past (not that they were boiling smoke or anything). Maybe I did pick up some bottom end. It was enough to make me chuckle a little anyway. That's gotta be worth something.

Upon further inspection, the old cat (aftermarket) was welded in in such a manner to cause a pretty bad restriction. Truck will get sideways now from a standstill. (Yes, I couldn't help myself). We will see how the cat performs long term. Next tank of gas, I will drive normally and report mileage. What can I say? I'm from mississippi. I'm a redneck. Getting sideways will always be close to my heart.
