Sounds like you may have installed the bushing in a bit too far. I just did the same thing and had to replace my whole column. I then had to sand down the bushing a bit and only inserted it so that it went 1/4 inch from the lip... then be sure the retaining ring isn't right up against the bushing since the ring will rotate with the shaft, but the bushing is stationary.

Yea we backed it off a little bit and it freed itself up out of the bind and that linkage was able to move after that.
