Default Possible broken snap ring in transfercase

Iv had this problme lately when i hit a bump id get this grind noise. Sometimes would last a sec other times i pulled over to get it to stop. i thought it was coming from the front like a wheel bearing or something like that but when i listened close its coming from the floor near the passenger side. I searched it and most likely cause is that snap ring on the output shaft. NOW, i had my driverside rear tire go almost flat and that grind would happen over every bump and it was bad. I put air in the tire and now its back to every now and then i would get a slight grind, as the tire looses air like it did today the grind is easier to cause when i hit a bump .What im thinking is that when the tire looses air the truck starts to flex and puts more pressure on driveshaft and causes the grind noise easer? I got the snap ring from the dodge dealer, im gonna change it tomaro and hopefully that solves it.

You can check it buy dropping the back housing on the traqnsfer case, but I'd probably check other things first.
That would be...U-joints, LSD if you have one, and pinion bearing.

If your snap ring had broke your transfer case should've already self destructed. The entire output shaft assembly would have slid back and rammed the chain and assundry parts into your main case.

If the snap ring is broke and the Dodge gods gave you a free pass, don't risk your luck. Buy a T-case saver ring from quad 4x4 and install it. You may not be lucky a 2nd time.

your right man the snap ring is fine. the u joints on rear driveshaft are ok and so is everything on and in rear axle. But theres some play in both front axle joints, not alot but some and the front driveshaft squeeks when you move it. Im praying its the u joint. i warming up now but in a little while im gonna go back to the garage and mess with the front axle and see whats up. Im pretty nervous now cause with my luck the pinion bearing will be shot. when i put the truck in 4x4 the truck pulls hard to the right. But i dont get any wierd noises. o boy....

The Cardan joint on the front drive shaft needs rebuild, if it squeaks. Take the shaft to a drive shaft shop and let them replace the parts. It's not all that expensive.

Your front shaft seals are toast, if you add oil your will see it leak out at the end of the carrier. I would look at replacing those seals, wheel joint (u-joint). Might be a good time to replace the ball joints too.
