Default oil pressure acting funny

ok 96 dodge ram 5.2, put a brand new oil pump in about a month ago and oil pressure was fine, then i had my oil leak. well my oil leak has finally subsided from the oil pan and now coming from the valve covers which im not worried about. this morning i went to start her up and the oil pressure jumped up to 40 then dropped to 0 immediately afterwards.oil sending switch maybe or just the strain getting clogged maybe? anyone have any suggestions. my oil level is just right so im a little dumbfounded right now.

If you don't hear any lifter noise it may well be the sending unit. I have had them leak and oil run down the back passenger side of the motor and thought it was a valve cover also.
