Default Backspacing and clearance questions?

I know the factory rims on a non-offroad edition are 16x8, but what is the backspacing? I have slightly larger tires on mine and scrub the lower control arm. I will be lifting the truck about 4 inches soon and would like to put 35's on the stock rims. I will have aftermarket control arms and I hope to clear them. Anybody running 35's on stock rims with around 4" of lift? Any input is appreciatted!!

pretty sure either way its going to rub.. Best bet is to either get new rims or adjust the steering stops to keep it from rubbing at full lock

I believe there was a thread in the DIY section about wheels that included factory "backspacing" which technicall is called offset. You can try a search there. 0.00 offset means the flange is centered. Can't remember which way is + or - .....

Edit: See my tire size in sig. Wheels are 17" helo Maxx 6: 12mm Offset, and 4.5" Backspace for lifted trucks. I have stock Offroad Edition lift (~2" + 2.5" coil spacers). No rub ever on control arms before or after tires. Very minor rub on wheel well, backside, outside corner where the body panel seam is located. Acts like a knife. I just ground that off with a grinder.

Well I have some 17x9 eagle 185's on my 85. I'm swapping it to one ton axles so those rims will be free. I thought that the stock rims would have less backspacing than 4.625" and that moving the tire further into the wheelwell would only make it scrub the control arm that much sooner though. The 185's are black and I didn't want to black this truck any, but it beats buying two new sets of rims.

Also, Dlyter09, what kind of lift are you running? It looks awfully low. I wanted to fit the 35's with as lil lift as possible, but have decided that most agree it takes 4-5 inches to clear them.

Im actually not running lift. I had a set of stock 20 inch wheels of an 06 1500 that i sold and was given those 35's. The truck sat in my garage for a while on them while it was getting a new transfer case put it. I only drove it with the 35's a few times and it wasnt all that bad besides rubbing on the fender a bit. Im running 285's now on the stock 16 inch rims. Pretty close to 33's without any rubbing. 4inches of lift should give you plenty of room for your 35's

That's what it looked like but I figured I'd ask. Which do you like better? The 35's or 33's? And what did you think of the gearing with both?

I was going to chime in earlier about the gear issue. 33's you'll be fine with 4:10's and 35's you'll want at least 4:56 gears. The 3:55's you most likely have are just going to beat the hell out of the tranny.

When i had the 35's on the gearing seemed to be good for me. Truck ran pretty much the same as it does now with the 33's. Might have been a little less get up and go with the 35's but nothing i couldnt deal with. Im probably gonna be doing 37's once i get all my lift stuff figured out then i will go with 4.88's.
