Default Heater core leak

ya i have a small heater core leak i think the passenger floor isnt wet but wen u first turn on the heat u can smell it and i loose about a half quart of antifreeze a month...is there any additives to stop the leak or anybody got any ideas i really dont have the money to replace it yet

The additives will only create bigger problems down the road. Check the hose where it goes into firewall. If it is leaking inside it should be getting carpet wet. Pull carpet back from the front edge and see if the mat underneath is wet. I don't think the core is that expensive, but it is a PITA to change.

I had a leaking core also... you couldnt tell from the inside except if you turn on your heat and smell anti freeze then you know your problem. Oh and bad news, to get the core out you have to take the whole front of the truck out...i mean EVERYTHING. steering column complete dash etc etc etc. I'll try to find a pic of my truck when i had to replace the heater core.

You do not need to remove the dash..

It can be done with out evacuating the a/c. You do not need to remove the dash as much as you think. Trust me I did it took me 2 hours total.
