Need help badley!
Hey everyone. I am in dire need of help! I have a 1999 1500 with the 5.9. The problem I am facing is something that just happened. I believe my engine or transmission is dying? What happens is that when I was driving my truck started to lightly chug. Now I'm not sure why but it is very random. However after the chug went away. I started to lose power and I kept hearing loud "tick" noises coming either from the engine. Then it loses power and generally goes under 500 rpm before dying completely. It also seems to have a problem at first starting once it dies. But when I finally do get it going. It shifts very roughly and then drives for a few minutes before starting the process over again. Does anyone know what this could be just off the top of their heads!? I currently don't have coses as it is very early. But any help will be greatly appreciated!! Thank you. Oh! Also just want t add I know absolutely nothing about cars in the mechanical sense.
You know, the one thing mechanics hate is when you bring your vehicle to them and tell them what you think is wrong.
HOWEVER, plenum repair is relatively easy if you take your time, have a shred of mechanical inclination and have the tools. Tools are the big part of the pie. I do not consider myself a home mechanic, but I know enough to be useful...and dangerous!
From my perspective, and probably 99% of the people here, it seems like you have a blown plenum and a clogged cat. You are looking at about 1600 bucks to fix that if you bring it in (Repair shop AND exhaust shop). You can possibly take 800-1000 off that price if you do the plenum yourself. I can't weld, so I would be bringing the truck to an exhaust shop to fix the cat.
