Default Fuel pump?

Hi i have a 1997 dodge ram 1500 slt 5.9 liter. Since i got the truck its been had to start sometimes i gotta hold the key for a few seconds for it to actually start esp in the morning well today i was coming to a stop light and my truck stalled i tried starting it but nothing all it did was turn over. I thought my guage went bad so i had my girlfriend bring me a gallon of gas i poured it in tried starting nothing but turning over so i went under the truck banged the gas tank and it started it but then stalled again. Aslong as i keep hittin the gas tank the truck keeps running once i stop it shuts off. All this leads to the fuel pump being bad right? If so around how much is a fuel pump thank you

Most likely bad pump. Check the electrical connector on top first though. And for a new pump, check out Rock Auto. Don't cheap out on it. Also use the discount code from the thread in the general discussion section.

I'm on my 4th fuel pump since owning my truck so yea don't cheap out on it. Also that nut on top of the tank is a bitch to get off, my remedy is a cheap strap wrench for oil filters, makes the job soooo much easier

Good call. Also, Check out the brake and fuel lines that are running by the tank for rot. A lot easier to replace while the tank is down.
