well a dual electric fan kit to remove the mechanical fan. larger throttle body diameter. kegging the intake manifold or FI air gap or M1. 1.6 or 1.7 rockers and upgraded springs. headers, more free flowing exhaust system. SCT tune most recommended(hemifever) just PM him. I just got 11.3mpg doing 55-60mph for 30 or 40 miles and then freeway hauling *** at 70-75mph for about 100 miles. That's average for me. I have all that waiting to go in on my truck.(except rockers/spring upgrade and spectre CAI and cat back. installed already)

 

You know when i think about , its amazing how such horrible gas mileage these particular V8's get lol. I havent seen a V8 that gets quiet as bad MPG as these magnums do lol.

 

Well in 2001 gas was well below $2 a gallon. These trucks were built when gas was cheap and no one cared about fuel economy. And even the 2wd's 1500's are pretty heavy.

My mother used to have a '97 F250 Gasoclean, we never bothered to figure up mileage but she had a charge account at the local gas station, she'd spend around $250-$260 a month on gas alone.

It probably did okay for the big a** truck it was.

Get your Ram running in optimal condition ie: plenum fix, plugs, cap & rotor, timing set, pre O2 sensor, and catalytic converter, the exhaust is a tad restrictive too, and you should see decent numbers on average.

Keep in mind if you can average even 11 or 12mpgs, which is a horrible number, but when you consider what your driving, it's not too bad.

 

Well i drive the 98 grand cherokee 5.9 limited.. weighs only around 4300 lbs i get aroung 12 mpg city 17-18.6 on the freeway at 65mph any faster and i get like 16

i have to use 93 octane unlike you dodge guys. 87 is like 3.14 here. 93 is 3.69 big diff in price

 

I would say that's pretty decent.

My wife's car, an '02 Buick Century, weighs around 3400lbs. I think, it averages 21Mpg on my runs with it. Good for '02, nothing compared to today's 30-40+Mpg.

 

For comparison an H2 hummer averages 11mpg I believe it is as aerodynamic as a brick...
Keep in mind mpg averages 2-3 mpg less with modern ethonal fuels and will continue to drop as they add more ethanol over time...this will create motivation to replace the "gas guzzlers" on the road in a more effective way than cash for clunkers did.
There is no magic aftermarket mod thats gonna do wonders for gas mileage on these trucks. best thing to do is make sure everything is functioning correctly following the suggestions on the thousands of other MPG threads here. Every single day someone finds this site and asks the "better MPG" question...
If its really costing a person hundreds extra a month than the smart thing to do is replace the truck with something more efficient... The newer Hemi line is much better on both power and efficiency

where do you live? Here in Ct 87 is bout the same price as your 93
