Default new truck weird trany

so i got a 2001 1500 4x4 short bed quad cab 5.9 auto. its pretty nice has a few things i need to fix. it has a new transmission and the linkage doesnt seem to be hooked up right cause the selecter on the dash is stuck at 1. and it seems like its taking off in 2nd. cause it doesnt want to take off real quick the trany is good i can put it in 4 low and shift it threw the gears fine. could the dash selector not being hooked up right cause that? im going to get my friends scan tool to day to use it to shift it with the scanner.

Remove the knee panel under the steering column and check the cable.

Check linkage adjustment underneath. You can find service manual in FAQ/DIY section. It may be binding somewhere inder the truck at the tranny.

I believe that cable is only used to tell you what gear your in. I don't think it actually has anything to do with your trans shifting. What you are probably looking for is the shift linkage, which is next to the throttle body.
