i tried a 180 tstat and 3923 cooler plugs - they were no help.
i did the plenum fix and it stopped the pinging.

assuming you have stock pcm programming - and still have pinging, i'd suspect you might still have a leaking plenum. overheating on #8 is also suspicious. good call on merc above about checking/swapping the #8 injector.

TB spacer won't help any. these engines inject directly into the port. complete waste of money.
I have already done the plenum fix, thinking the 180 may help but sacrifice heat

this is wrong.... the valve seats in our OE heads are notoriously weak due to the casting/design.. the temperature has little to do with it.. if, however, you would find some reason you would want to hasten it? run with a clogged kitty- the extra pressure will take miles and miles of life out of it.. or, run excessively lean- that kind of heat, coupled with likely pre-det- and something has to give..

on another note: what plugs are/were you using? it's already been said, but copper plugs seem to run better in our rigs.. I tried several fancy metal plugs, and each of them pinged like a *****.. dropped some champs in there (12RC4), and no more.. In addition to the 12RC4's, I've ran the 12RC's with no problems, as well as 5224 and 3224 from Autolite.. ANYTHING iridium or platinum, and I sound like a high hat..

So 180 t stat and some copper plugs ? Im not even sure what I got in there, I had picked them up from the dodge dealership in town before I had done any research on this issue. It was running like junk, figured it needed a tune up. Wow, did I open a can of worms or what ?!?!
