Help its snowing
we got about 6 in of snow already and still snowing now i went to get salt this moring in my 95 ram 2500 and on my way home coming up the hill to my house it there was a clunking noise coming from my right front tire it sounded like. Its the first i ever herd that sound and i was in 4wd the way to get salt and coming home. what could be making the sound.
you suck for getting snow.
Pretty hard to say what it is over the net, but just to toss out general idea in the general area without further description (speed, under load, idle, coast, turning, etc.):
1. ujoint
2. hub unit bearing
3. tie rod
4. rocks
5. shock
6. coil spring
7. axle shaft
8. drive shaft

My truck did EXACTLY this after some 4x4 use in the mud last year. U-Joint for sure. Right front U-joint just like yours even. Noise is rhythmic to wheel rotations, and most noticeable at low speeds.
To check, just reach up under there and try to turn it back and forth as if you were rotating it about the axle. There should be no play, but i would bet you will be able to spin it back and forth and create that knocking noise you are hearing.

parts are near zero. labor is near all day, two days if you damage the axle seals when reinserting the axles. beware - don't pay a shop several hundred dollars to change the u-joints and let them screw up the $10 seals and then charge you several hundred more to replace the seals.
get either Spicer or Precision u-joints. i prefer the greaseable Precision 377.
they've got about half again more material and strength than the crappy ones.
note the tiny little grease cap. its NOT a zerk and will require either a needle, or an adapter like this.
MTN2500-SOA i have this one and it works good, but is messy to put on/off.
