Default P0443

Evening,

I get this now after the engine did not want to turn over after a drive.
When I got back it did nothing, completely dead, a mechanic next door came over slammed on top of the starter and it started promptly.

He told me to replace the starter motor, but isnt that in conflict with the P0443 message Im getting?

Please help.

Peter

P0443 is a evap purge control valve malfunction code. check for a vacuum leak on the vacuum lines, splits or cracks.

a quote from the shop manual...
"A open or short detected in the EVAP purge control circuit"

is it possible that the pump itself is causing this code to come up? the evap lines go back to the pump, right? ive been having problems with my truck starting and was just assuming that it was my pump, i even get no fuel to the rail the first couple of times i try to start it, then i'll get pressure but it wont hold.
this is the second time ive gotten 0443 and i just replaced the solenoid a couple of months ago because i thought it was the problem. is it just my pump ora combination of things?

there is a check valve in the pump assembly that keeps fuel in the rail for quick starts, your valve may be bad. do this to verify it... get the trcuk started as normal, then turn it off and wait about 1 minute, then re-fire it. if it starts immediately, great, turn it off & wait about 10 minutes and try again. if it doesnt start immediately i'll be the check valve in the pump is going bad. the longer you wait, the more fuel drains out of the rail.

Seems everyone is missing the obvious -- the truck DID NOT want to turn over. The mechanic hit the starter, and BOOM, the truck started. A bad starter and a P0443 are two districtly separate issues. Replace the starter/solonoid (they are one unit) and then work on your P0443 issue.

yeah, he has his own problem. i stole the thread (its a year and a half old, didnt think he'ld mind) what i want to know is if the 0443 is possibly coming from my pump itself, and if the code and the trouble starting are related.
