Devalued 2001 Cummins What?
I have an unsual problem and perhpas not so unusual.
I had a sweet 2001 Dodge Cummins that I bought about 8 years ogo totaled, after fixed it was the best truch I ever had, I have never has a serious problem, but, with the Restorred Rebuilt Title the insurance company is devaluing the truck although I paid the same premium any one else would for the same truck with clean title driving record age etc....
why did they fail to mention this up front?
any way, I ran the truck into a wall one snowy morning, I estimated the damage around 800 buck, this was a nice looking truck and very well maintained. Long bed Standard trans and a whopping 352,000 miles and ran like the day I got it.....
well the insurance company totaled it! then they offered me 3700 IF they take the truck and 2900 if I keep it, basically the valued the truck at about 1100....shees
How am I supposed to replace this truck?
I was forced to sell it as it and I got 5000 WRECKED non the less
I still haven;t accepted their offer and my attorney said it would be a great idea and give thenm reason to pay more if I can get a dealers statement or evidence of what a like truck is selling for....
I know I have seen several comparables with Restorred titles selling for 7000,
I am looking for any info such as this or any statement from a dealer as to the estimated value....
anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
Daniel

Salvage title is never worth anything close to what a clean title vehicle is regardless of its condition. That's just the nature of the salvage/rebuilt title. You still pay the same premiums in most cases, you just get next to nothing if your truck is stolen/written off.
Why didn't you just take the $2900 and fix the truck for the $800 estimated damage and pocket the $2100?
Obviously laws vary from state to state, but I'd think you could just repair the damages and get it re-certified as a salvage/rebuilt title again?

Keep in mind for near 10 years I bought and fixed damaged Dodge Cummins from the dealers auction and I was always able to sell them for "Near" the same value as a clean title, I agree that most vehicles might fit the 50% value thing, but the Dodge Cummins just isn't the norm, mine had 350,000 miles and ran like the day I got it. awesome truck.....
Thank you for the reply....
I would asked for a settlement offer and kept the truck from being totaled fixed myself and walked away happy......my truck was almost totaled with similar damage so I did a settlement and gave it a new paint job
My truck was bought wrecked, and I am insured
might also be how the insurance company marked the loss on the title.
