Cylinder head install over torqued bolt
I am replaceing my cylinder heads on my 98 dodge ram 1500 5.2l and I rented a torque wrench from Autozone. Well I put the head on and hand tightened the bolts then started torqueing the 1st bolt to 50 ft lbs but it never clicked and I think I over tightened the bolt. I took it back to Autozone and got one that works and the guy said that I just need to loosen the bolt and retourque it and the head gasket would be fine. Does this seem right to you or should I replace the head gasket. Thanks.

i'm no expert, and lets see how the opinions vary. if i wrong i'm wrong.
considering how expensive head gaskets, and how they compress, and assuming that if you're overtorqued, that its not a whole lot.... but i would not loosen that bolt. i'd continue to torque in the proper sequence and if that one is a tad over tight i think it'd be alright.

First round tq is 50ftlbs second round is to 105ftlbs, the gasket will be fine as you have yet to reach the full tq needed.

20). Repeat procedure, tighten all cylinder head bolts
to 143 N-m (105 ft. lbs.) torque. Repeat procedure to
confirm that all bolts are at 143 N-m (105 ft. lbs.)
torque.
