Default Transfer case

how hard is it to change the fluid in the transfer case??? Is there a drain plug and a fill hole at the top? Haven't really got under and looked that closely before.

Thanks

Default RE: Transfer case

Remind us again what year/type of truck you have, engine, trans, etc...

My '99 1500 is very easy to change fluid on. It has a drain screw-in plug, and fill screw-in plug. It is a special shaped tool, so you might need to get that before you start.
You will also need either a squeeze bottle that you put your fluid into in order to get it into the fill hole, or a funnel that leaves you room to pour (the fill hole is kinda high on the transfer case, so you run into a little clearance issue for your bottle when trying to refill).

-Open the fill plug and the drain plug, let it drain.
-After it drains, I like to squirt in some new fluid, letting it drain until it is only clean fluid coming out.
-Reinsert the drain plug,
-Fill to the bottom of the fill hole,
-Cap the fill hole,
-Drive it for a bit, (I like to go somewhere where I can also put it into 4x4 for awhile, not sure if that is necessary though)
-Let it set for a little bit, then recheck the level and add if necessary.

Whole process usually takes less then an hour at most.

Good luck.
