Default 99 Ram Tranny Q's / New to me Truck

Hey Guys, recently acquired a 99 1500 Ram Sport Shorty w/318. Its got 65k on it and the transmission seems to shift funny. It goes ok until needing to shift between 3rd and OD, its very erratic, also a few days ago from a coasting stop I hit the throttle and it seemed to be slipping or not engaged for a second or so, I had to let up and tromp on it again to get going.

One other thing, coolant is leaking seemingly from front cover, seems higher up than w/pump but in that area ?? Intake manifold/front cover gaskets common to leak on these ?

Common area for leak in that area has three usual suspects. First is the bypass tube coming out of the driver side of pump. Second is the t stat housing on top of intake. And third is the timing cover gasket.

For tranny - check fluid level. Put in neutral with trans fluid warm. Let us know what you find. Also, look at color of fluid. Is it red and clean? smell burned or not?
