Question 4x4 transmission

Hi

I had to have another transmission put in my 01 and since then I've had to take it back for "fine tuning" and I'm going to have to take it in again for another shifting problem. I don't use the 4L gear however I think when they put in the replacement transmission, it's not in there correctly as when I put it in 4L, the shifter seems like it's hitting the front part of the console and doesnt fully allow the gear to engage. I want to bring this to their attention but I first want to make sure I'm not crazy. Like I said, I've never really used the 4L gear but I'm quite sure it shouldnt be engaging how it is.
Does anyone else have a 1500 that they can snap a picture of the floor gear console while in 4L? I can also get a picture to post up of it tomorrow if needed.

Thanks

Crap meant 4L not 2L. That's what I get for posting at 1 in the morning.

Thanks for the info. I'll ask them about that when I take it in.

Automatic transmission. I am referring to the 4x4 shift **** in the center console. It's a 01 Ram 1500 4x4 5.2L Sport

the automatic transmission replacement really shouldn't affect the t-case shift between 4H-2H-N-4L, as that's all transfer case. during a transmission replacement, the transfer case is removed, set aside, and then put right back in the original position. even the t-case linkage rod is disconnected/reconnected without any readjustment.

you might want to do this is you can. level ground, e-brake on, engine off - crawl under your truck and find your t-case shifter linkage. drivers side, very easy to see. if you don't see it, with engine off, have a helper shift the t-case while you keep your fingers out of the way. you'll see it move a 2-3 inch long lever on top of the t-case. it will have 4 solid stops, corresponding to 4H-2H-N-4L. each will make a significant "clack" noise when it hits that stop. if you get that good solid sound at each point, then your shift linkage is fine. for further invesigation, you can disconnect the rod from the t-case by simply popping the rod out of the t-case lever. it won't hurt it. do NOT adjust the linkage until you know for sure that it actually needs adjusting.

i don't have a pic of the shifter in the cab, but the 01 is very far forward when in 4L.
