If plenum gasket was replaced using the orignial pan and bolts, do not rule this out a as a possibility. It is worth checking it out as others have mentioned.

You lost me on the "no signs of gasket leaking...two pipes in and one out" as well. Have you removed TB and looking into the intake with a flashlight?
Two pipes in, one out is referring to his catalytic converter

No "they" in replacing anything. I did it. Typical oil consumption and poor running. So all that (Plenum gasket)was done SOP with a MOPAR replacement kit. . I will though look into the manifold. Two pipes in/one out refers to the Catalytic Converter style for my 1999.

Seems like if it does now run better after removing the forward O2 sensor then that must be at least a major contributor. I would guess replace the Cat.

This was like in 2000 or 2001 and MOPAR was the source for the plenum, gasket and I remember bolts too. The bolts might have been longer? Anyway, this was all that was available back then as they just started to realize the problem. Too bad they did realize the the tranny was worthless. I have my fourth one in now.

well these trannys are weak but if you've gone through 4 of them I'd guess to venture you either put a few hundred thousand miles on the truck or you may be too hard on your truck and maybe should have gotten a 2500 or 3500 instead... That or possibly the same place has rebuilt all your transmissions and may be doing a sub par job?
Do you use ATF+4 or the additive with other fluids?

If your cat is plugged now then your truck is still consuming oil or its running very rich...

The heavier duty truck wouldn't help. My 2500 has the same 46RE as the 1500's...... step up to the 8 liter, or der diesel, and THEN you get a better trans. (which we see a LOT fewer issues with.....)

I would hope that the new bolts were SHORTER.

If you do replace the O2 sensor, dont go with bosch - worst brand on everything I have ever used from them. Delphi & denso are at the top end on those from my experience.

Not sure about the bolts(i'd also hope they were shorter). But IIRC, the gasket is of better quality and thicker. I'm also not sure of what year they started selling the upgraded gasket.
