Actually.I was asking the OP how he detected it.Not what are signs of it....And sometimes PURE water is not as obvious on the dipstick as glycol(anti-freeze)/water mix....The age of the oil an amount of WATER present, could lessen or magnify how obvious it is...

Ohio, I had just torn the motor down for head gaskets and valve job done to the heads. so everything on that point was replaced as well as new oil. I was told since it was torn down that I should pull the timing c0ver and do the chain. cash was running low so I did a visual look over and thought I had solved the problem and would go back in there down the road when I saved some cash back up. well i was wrong. I ran the motor and drive it a little then went back out there in the morning to find that I had water in the oil so I am pretty sure about what the cause is. I wasn't going to put any anti freeze in it till I was sure the problem was fixed.

Thanks guys for the advice on the harmonic balance. I will be very careful as well as give you an update once I get the gasket replaced.

I wasn't questioning your diagnosis(to be clear)..I was just asking how you came to that diagnosis...I don't blame ya for not putting the putting anti-freeze in till your sure..I have went straight water many times before..Till I knew for sure what was going on..

I was trying to explain it the best i could. I am pretty sure the water in the oil that brought me to the conclusion it was a head gasket may have been from the timing cover to begin with so that's why I didn't see the normal signs of a blown head gasket. When I did the cylinder test. I found one low so it started from there on the gasket change as well as the water loss I was going through. I more and less caught the gasket before it failed completely. I believe once the timing belt cover is off. I will see its failure point. I am putting the truck to the side at this time to save up money since Its most likely the chain itself will need to be changed as well. I figure I will be there anyway like I was for the gasket. This time I wont have to go back again into the motor for something else. In other words. hard lesson learned. A forum member suggested it to start with on the timing cover but with funds low. I did what I thought was OK but turns out it wasn't. lol
