99 1500 tranny temp gauge
All thanks for support on my previous catalytic converter issue. All is well.
I am on my 4th tranny. First one went out while pulling my boat. It weights about 3840 lbs (20 foot walleye deep V). I was told by the dealer it was no problem to pull with the OD on. Wrong, wrong wrong. Second one was rebuilt wrong as was the third. 4th one was done right and still works well (112,000 miles total). So I want to pull the same boat some more and think I have things in order. Had the tranny checked last week and it was fine and ready. So what about a temp gauge? My questions are?
Why does every one place the sensor on the input line under the truck? Why not in the engine compartment. I have a tranny cooler plus the one in the radiator. The old check valve that used to be on the tranny line was removed long ago.
As for temperature is it all not relative? For example if the temperature goes up or down, what difference does being off slightly from the absolute temperature make? Not sure at what temp the idiot light does off at, but when you pull something would you still not be able to see the temp go up? At some point you are going to have a good idea of what temps are high and what it runs normally at. So on the interstate I run 70MPH and I will see a relative number for the temp - correct? If it goes up pulling up a hill I will see that too. So I would begin to know my tranny I think. I would have reason to become uncomfortable with higher temps.
Thoughts anyone?

It's just more accurate installed in the line as close as possible to the tranny(the output line to the cooler) .
