new 98 dodge ram 1500
welcome to df. i like your name....
stalling at idle is IAC or TPS or low battery voltage.
stalling at higher rpm is different. maybe fuel pump/filter, maybe an electrical problem with crank position sensor and ASD shutdown.
rear howling is probably pinion bearing. the easiest, cheapest DIY fix is to replace the entire rear end housing from a junk yard. shop around and try to get one for $200 bucks or less. typical price is $300-350. get all your critical measurements and see if a dakota will swap in. they're a dime a dozen. its likely leaked all the diff fluid out from a leaking seal, but now the bearings gone and adding fluid won't help. its most likely too late. you can try if you wish, but the odds are against you.

The fasted it stalled on me was about 20-25k max but i let off the on the throttle. I need to pick up some carb cleaner tomorrow and will clean out the IAC. the diff isnt visually leaking but i will check that tomorrow too, I was thinking bearings as well. Anyone know the rough cost of 2 rear bearings?
I picked it up at a dealer and it didnt go through the shop because it wasnt there too long.
