Default Steering Flush

What is the best method of flushing my ps fluid? I'm thinking of pulling the return line off at the little cooler. Your thoughts? And which line at the cooler is the return?

i wouldn't remove the line and power flush that way. too much likelihood of making a big mess, running the pump dry (bad), breaking something.

instead, get a turkey baster at walmart for about $2, and 1-2 quarts of PS fluid. suck out the old fluid and replace. crank it up and let the fluid circulate. repeat 2 or 3 or 4 times.

rinse the turkey baster well, especially the rubber bulb, when done and it will last a long time.

Any particular reason you are wanting to flush the PS system?

This is what I do. I do this at every oil change with ATF+4, and mine always looks new. Obviously this doesn't get all of the fluid out, but by the time the fluid has reached the end of it's service life, 99% of it has been replaced at some point.

If I remember correctly, the longer line is the HP line. You could get someone to get in the truck and turn the steering wheel all the way and hold it. Should be able to identify which line has pressure on it.

Easiest way to flush it would be the method already mentioned. Suck all the old fluid out and run fresh fluid in the pump for a while. Then repeat until it comes out clean.
