Edit: Your father in law is dead right very little to no play in ball joints.
Yeah, the mechanic that showed me the bad ball joints told me, "you might get away with that other one." Because he showed me the really bad drivers side one. Basically I went to get an alignment after the other work (tie rods and trac bar) because the place that did the work had no machine. Can't believe the other place missed that ball joint. Good thing I have an extended warranty. I was between a rock and a hard place in terms of getting my truck back in time and the shop was busy...so only one ball joint that day.

Also, what is a front axle cross joint? talking about the tie rods? What about having a drivers side tire that is horribly worn (heavy wear outside and drifts "better" towards the inside) and a passenger side tire that is on good condition. Tire/ball joint combo might just do it...?

Put the two best tires you have on the front of the truck.

I already rotated them. then rotated them back. I did notice that the wobble was different after that, but it was not completely solved. Then I had a balance and they rotated them back.

That ball joint will certainly have a factor in the DW. Since its not just one thing that causes DW, any little thing will make it worse. 1/8" is quite a bit of play in a joint that is supposed to have no play at all.
