Just switch the yoke to the other end of the shaft. You could also try turning the yoke 180 Degrees from were it is on the shaft now. Time for some chalk or a paint pen so you can mark whats what before you start.

Well when I pulled the drive shaft earlier I font the u-joint was loose on the caps and had some play in it the caps are made for double clips so I I stuck anothe clip along the caps and it tightened it back up there was a 1/4 inch play I'm there I think that's why the drive shaft felt like it was bouncing some ill find out tomorrow

It's a Dana drive shaft the "proper" u-joints are $127 a peice and have to be ordered I got napa to match some up there bastered u-joints but where the clips go on the caps behind the yoke it's wide enough for 2 clips I think I'm going to have to switch ends because that didn't work doubling it up still a little shakie

A Dana drive-shaft? $127 a u joint someone is blowing smoke up your rear. You have the same year truck as me and u joints cost me $45 CDN each. If I remember right there are four different types/sizes of u joints that can go in our trucks. Sorry to say NAPA u joints suck bag. Do you have any way of getting the measurements from the old u joint so I can cross-reference it for you.

A 96 rear shaft has internal c clips

A 98 rear shaft has external clips

You are correct, even the same years are not the same. Merc is right any way, after you get it figured out, next time , use some sort of marker to line things back up. Of course a Haynes or the free DL from the FAQ/DIY section would have also helped. And please, for the love of God, turn off auto spell on your phone.
